Effective Storage Space Strategies
Are you lost in a sea of unorganized boxes and storage space clutter? Do you spend hours every year trying to re-shuffle stack, cram and stuff? This is a common problem faced by everyone. But there is hope! You can have a manageable storage shed space worthy of a photo.
One of the biggest mistakes committed by families without enough storage space is trying to cram too much in the little space you have. Just because you can get it in there and quickly close the door before it falls out doesn't mean you have solved your storage issues.
Here are a few good tips for anyone looking to tame the mess and maximize storage space use and access.
- Use containers. We cannot stress this enough. Group items together and store in an airtight plastic tub. Use a permanent marker to label the side of the tub that will be visible when placed against a wall.
- Use shelving and tool rack systems. When combined with containers, shelving makes sliding out the container you want without disturbing adjacent containers much easier and less stressful. And once you get what you were after, sliding the container back into its place on the shelf is a wonderful feeling. Don't believe me? The alternative is stacks of boxes that need to be reshuffled any time you need to get into the one near the bottom. Yuck!
- Use the shed sides and leave the center area open. Boxes and shelves benefit from the stability of a solid wall behind them. This also means that you can access all the items in your shed by using the empty (or less used) center aisle to walk all the way to the back. If you do put things inthe center, make them easy to rool out. Lawnmowers, fertilizers, and crates on wheels are great items to store in the center if you have to.
- Keep the things you need most frequently near the front and separated from less-frequently accessed items.
These useful ideas have helped many new shed owners maximize the pleasure of shed ownership and kept belongings in fine shape for years and years!
